Book Picks ~ October

A bit behind because my life has become a nightmarefuck of bureaucracy lately, but here are this month's recommended reads as suggested by you guys! I've linked everything to Book Depository, because it's where I and my friends usually buy books; they have pretty much everything ever and free shipping anywhere in the world!

A teenage murder witness is drowned in a tub of apples...At a Hallowe'en party, Joyce - a hostile thirteen-year-old - boasts that she once witnessed a murder. When no-one believes her, she storms off home. But within hours her body is found, still in the house, drowned in an apple-bobbing tub. That night, Hercule Poirot is called in to find the 'evil presence'. But first he must establish whether he is looking for a murderer or a double-murderer...

From the author of Sherlock Holmes, this book features eight engaging mystery stories. When first gathered into one volume in 1908, the book was entitled Round the Fire Stories, since the author recommended that they be read ideally "'round the fire upon a winter's night." One marvels again at Doyle's natural gift of storytelling and one relishes his ingrained habit of giving clues, even when they serve narrative and are not to be used for ratiocination. These stories are worth reading even around a radiator."

Eight full zombie characters are laid out here in neat little sets, each part knitted quickly and separately. Every zombie has a range of outfits and props - trailing entrails, distressingly cute rats, bones, cleavers, hats and moldy frockcoats add to their individuality.

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO IS BACK. Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist have not been in touch for some time. Then Blomkvist is contacted by renowned Swedish scientist Professor Balder. Warned that his life is in danger, but more concerned for his son's well-being, Balder wants Millennium to publish his story - and it is a terrifying one. More interesting to Blomkvist than Balder's world-leading advances in Artificial Intelligence, is his connection with a certain female superhacker. It seems that Salander, like Balder, is a target of ruthless cyber gangsters - and a violent criminal conspiracy that will very soon bring terror to the snowbound streets of Stockholm, to the Millennium team, and to Blomkvist and Salander themselves.

Packed with stunning pieces of artwork, this book gives fans the chance to colour in the vivid settings and beloved characters of J.K. Rowling's wizarding world. Containing intricate line drawings used in the making of the Harry Potter films, this colouring book includes all of the fan-favourite scenes, creatures, and characters of the series, from Dobby and baby Norbert to Quidditch games and the unforgettable final battle between Harry and Lord Voldemort. Unique and interactive, The Harry Potter Colouring Book is a perfect collector's item for fans of the blockbuster saga. For best results, we recommend the use of colouring pencils to colour and create your stunning pictures.

Thanks for your suggestions! If you'd like to suggest a book for next month's book picks, write to me here on the Contact page and select Other. Happy reading! x
